100 Meals for $5 or Less: Book Review

I just got this book from the library and thought I'd share it with you. It's by Jennifer Maughan and it's called
100 Meals for $5 or Less. If a person was to use this as a guide, $5/meal I mean, that would cost you $450/month for groceries! That's way below the average amount spent for groceries by Canadian families!
(I know it works as this is our budget and includes all toiletries as well.)
At the beginning of the book she covers all the ways to save on groceries that I usually pass on at seminars! She covered using a Price list(I call it a Price book), shopping from the fliers and what's on sale, as well as shopping strategies. She talks about 20 Budget Cooking Tips as well as The Well Stocked Budget Pantry and Refrigerator.
I read it cover to cover in one sitting and I am excited to use it on Friday when I menu plan. Pretty sure I need to make the Corn Chowder on page 39!
There were lots of easy, normal ingredient recipes! Totally worth a read! Hope you glean something helpful!

In the most recent Canadian Living, there was an article on cooking for your family for under $15/day and I have to say -- wasn't very impressed with the meal choices!! :) So I'm looking forward to checking out this book. I don't think it'd be that hard to feed our family on $15/day in the US but here in Canada -- prices are outrageous. It's not a little bit more expensive. I find that often food items cost 3-4x as much! I'm interested in making my own price book but I never seem to get it done. Just seems a bit overwhelming! Any hints? Thanks Sue. Love your blog!

Hi Dayna,
Well, first of all, with a family of 7 you have a bigger budget!(even though Nora only loves the idea of food..hehe)I know most cook books there are only a few "good ideas" that's why I don't buy many! As to the price book, I think I will write a post on that...as it's a common question! Thanks for commenting. :)
