Well it's birthday time again at our house and the request was for an ice cream cake. We had a coupon for $3.00 off, but that would still cost $21.95 and it would only be a 7 inch cake. So, we decided why not try to make our very own Rolo cake. (The birthday boy decided on this flavour.)
So, to start you need a spring form pan(don't have one? try Value Village or your local thrift shop.).We used a 10 inch spring form pan.
To start put 1 Box 1.89L-2L of ice cream of your choice in the fridge to soften
The Crust:
1 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/3cup butter or margarine
melted
Mix all ingredients well and then press into the bottom of spring form pan
The Icing:
I found this recipe

It was interesting to learn that gelatin is important!
The Writing: To write on the cake I used a gift, the Epicure Chocolate Decorating gadget(thanks again Lynn!)
The Cost:
Ice cream can run you from $3-$8, depending on where you buy it.
The whipping cream was .76($3.05/L)
The crust would cost less than $1.
So, all told you could spend as little as $5, but if you want to use more expensive type ice cream you might spend $10. Compared to $25 that's a pretty great savings! It's easy too!
