Shoppers Spend Your Points Event This Weekend

It's been awhile since I have posted! I have some very good reasons....wanna hear? Well, on May 15th I was blessed to be present for the birth of my first grandchild! He's so fabulous! So, needless to say some trips to Surrey have been on my agenda! Now that it's so lovely outside I spend as much time as possible here. Seeing the computer screen in this brightness is hard, but I had to quickly share this with you in case you missed it! This weekend Shoppers is having their Spend Your Points event. This is one of the top redemptions they offer.(In the past they did Megas where 95000 points were worth $250, but that hasn't happened for a very long time now). I base all my points on this redemption. Normally 95000 points are worth $170. This weekend they are worth $220! That's a $50 difference! Of course, the top redemption is the best bang for your buck, but the lower ones are better that normal also. The redemption amounts are as follows: 95000=$220 50000=$110 25000=$50 If you combine this with coupons, Checkout 51, Zweet, Snap Saves and Cart Smart your savings can be even higher! I am making my list and visiting our biggest store as I hope to add some clearance items in too! Don't forget you have to pay the taxes. I always use a gift card that I purchased with my Shoppers Mastercard in order to get even more points! image

Saving Money on Cell Phones This Weekend!

Our middle daughter just graduated. She has decided it's time to get a cell phone. We went shopping this past week and were pleasantly surprised at the deals. I thought I would share in case you know someone who needs a cell phone! We ended up at Superstore after shopping other places. Our salesman, Wes, was very helpful. The first day we were there he laid out our options. When we went back the next day he was able to help us figure out the best plan. He mentioned it is the end of the quarter for the companies, thus the great deals. Note to self, June is a good time to get a new plan. Right now on select phones there is a $100 President's Choice gift card offer. As well, select phones are eligible for scratch cards. The minimum scratch card is $25 the maximum is $100. Some phones are eligible for 2 scratch cards. He showed us which ones and we picked a Samsung smart phone. The plan she wanted is $25/month for
200 Canada Wide Free Minutes
Free Canada Wide Evenings and Weekends starting at 6PM
Unlimited texting
Voicemail
50% off the 1st 3 months bill($12.50/month)

The phone is worth $205. Fido pays it down each month by $8.54! This means in 2 years it's paid off. It was one of the things that swayed us to Fido as the other similar phone companies would pay it out in 5 years! What does this mean? Well, instead of a contract there's just the phone to pay out. So, each month the amount decreases by $8.54 so that in 2 years the phone is paid. If you decide to change providers sooner you just pay out the remaining amount of the tab.
So, she got $100 right off the bat. Her scratch cards were $100 and $50 worth of gift cards! In the end her phone is paid for (we just gave her cash and bought the gift cards from her) and she got an extra $45!
This deal  supposedly ends this weekend, so check it out if you are needing a cell phone!

Bonus Air Miles at Shell this Weekend

There is an air miles deal this weekend at Shell.

 This Weekend Only!

On Saturday February 9th and Sunday February 10th, Shell sites Nationwide will enjoy special bonus reward miles offers: This Weekend Only! On Saturday February 9th and Sunday February 10th, Shell sites Nationwide will enjoy special bonus reward miles offers: Spend $50 on any purchase, including a minimum $20 V-Power Fuel purchase and earn 50 AIR MILES reward miles Spend $50 on any purchase, including a minimum $20 Shell Bronze, Silver or Diesel fuel purchase and earn 25 AIR MILES reward miles Note: No Coupon required All Convenience Store Food Store Items and Car Wash are eligible Tobacco Products and Service Bay repairs are excluded

So, I decided to look into the air miles cash and see about changing over to it. We have been using our air miles to get the night out coupons but there are a few problems with that. One, it seems there are only a few movies a year that we want to see in the theatre. We are much more comfy at home with popcorn and jammies! And secondly, I am a Secret Shopper for Cineplex so we already have to go see movies!

The nice thing about deciding whether to use air miles rewards(the original method) or air miles cash is that you can go into your on-line air miles account and change it any time. So, say I am not happy using the cash method I can go back and change to 100% rewards or a combination of cash and reward miles.

We have about $30 worth of cash rewards. 95 air miles =$10 cash rewards. I have been reading in a forum on Smart Canucks, about air miles,  and it had been mentioned that they use their  air miles cash to buy gift cards at Shell! So, I decided to figure out how to combine that with this deal. Here's my figuring. Let me know if you figure it different. I have 2 choices.

25 Air Miles                                                                     50 Air Miles

$20 Bronze Gas($1.20/L)=16.6 Litres                   $20 V-Power Gas($1.35/L)=14.8 Litres
$30 Gift Cards                                                          $30 Gift Cards
  $50                                                                           $50
-$30 Air miles cash                                                 -$30 Air miles cash
$20 out of pocket                                                   $20 out of pocket
-$2.63 air miles value                                                -$5.26 air miles value
  $17.37                                                                        $14.74
$2.16(to make up for the difference in litres)
                                                                                     $16.90
The difference in litres is due to the difference in price between the bronze and the V-Power, $1.20/L and $1.35L. You could also get silver of diesel. The extra $2.16 was calculated for the difference in litres 16.6-14.8. I took the 1.8 litre difference and multiplied it by $1.20/L to get the $2.16. So, all of this to figure out which is the best use of our money. The second option seems to be the best deal, not by much, .47!  I probably need to buy $50 worth of gift cards as they probably won't have $10 cards.  I don't know how this will go. I plan to do it Friday, so I will try and update this then. Leave a comment if you have an idea for me! Thanks!

Just a side note for those of you who read my earlier post about gas purchases . If I was to buy this same $20 worth of gas at  Superstore I would get $1.16(16.6L X 7cents/L) in gas bucks and .20(worth of PC points) so a grand total of $1.26.

Glade MIR

There is a Mail In Rebate right now at Loblaws stores. Spend $15(before tax) on any Glade products and get a $15 President's Choice gift card. There are some coupons out there. I had buy 2 get one free. My total was $16.93 and my coupon was worth $4.97 so my total before tax was $11.96. With tax my total is $13.99, so I make $1.01 on this transaction.
Mailed this away Oct 22. Received my $15 PC gift card Nov 26.

The fine print.....Purchase must be made between Oct 19- Dec 20, 2012. You must mail in your receipt with your glade purchases circled and the UPCs handwritten on the receipt. Also, fill out the back of the form above and mail it in. There are only 28000 gift cards available. Submissions must be received no later than Jan 20/2013. Allow 6-8 weeks for delivery. One per household.

Dare MIR....It Finally Came!

Did you do the Dare MIR? Have you received your gift card yet? It was one of the  longest waits I have ever experienced for a MIR. I mailed it on Apr 23 and got it Aug 18. Dare says they just weren't prepared to get the response they did! Seems like there are lots of us MIRers!!

This Week's Sales

Today only deals at Safeway. I am hoping they still have the apple juice by this afternoon!

10 for $5 makes them .50/litre! Great substitute for white wine in recipes!
Tuesday is 10% off day. The chicken breasts are on again.

Buy 3 cereals and get a free milk. If you have coupons you could make this a better deal, plus combining it with 10% off day is good.

Safeway has cantaloupe .49/lb

Customer Appreciation Days at Extra Foods for June 4 and 5 only.
Spend $25 and get 10% off on that $25(not more than $25 so try to get it bang on or move to the $50)

Superstore has spend $250 and get a $25 gift card.

4L of Vinegar 2/$4.38

Salsa is $4.98 for 1.85L limit 4. Typically it doesn't go on sale again until August.

Trail mix is $5.98 for the 800g-1Kg. NN Pasta 2kg $3(limit 6)

Pineapples are $1.96. Grapes are 2lbs for $2.48.

Toilet Paper is $6.98(I only saw this in the Extra Foods flyer, not Supertore's)if it is the same one I have bought in the past it is 6720 sheets. If you were spending $100 and getting 15% off this would make this .00088/sheet. To compare this to the recent Soft and Pure deal using this price/sheet it would cost $15.21 for the same amount of toilet paper.(It was on sale for $14.97 so this is only .24 more)

Pharmasave has Crest toothpaste 130 ml for .99. I will probably price match at Walmart or Superstore as this store is far away from me.
