Saving on Groceries at Safeway

Happy New Year everyone! To start off the new year why not grab yourself a $5 off coupon when you spend $50 from Safeway. Click this link and sign up for email direct. Already signed up and want the coupon? You can just enter your phone number and not your card numbers(airmiles and safeway) and still get the coupon. You can also just write down the PLU number above(all the coupons PLUs are the same) and give it to the cashier, they should take it, but I have found they like to see it so you may save yourself some hassle by having it printed out. Combine this with 10% off Jan 8 and another $5 when you spend $50 from the entertainment book and you could start the year really saving! Add in any Checkout 51 deals you need and your savings rise more!
For example....spend $50
10% off                     $5
$5 off email direct      $5
$5 entertainment book $5
Total                        $35
Total Savings         30%!!!
To demonstrate the savings a bit further lets say you wanted the Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts that are on for $2.99/lb starting Jan 4th. If you bought 2 boxes you would spend $52.72.
$52.72
-   5.27
-   5.00
-   5.00
$37.45/17.6lb(in 2 boxes)=$2.13/lb for your chicken now!

I believe that using the entertainment book $5 coupon is not allowed on Safeway's customer appreciation day. I'm not sure about the other coupon from the e-mail direct. Not sure if that has any restrictions about combining with other offers.

Hi Sing,
Thanks for commenting. Have you tried using it? I have only ever used it on Customer appreciation day, as that is usually the time I shop at Safeway. I haven't received the latest entertainment book so I will be sure to check the fine print and post it. As for the email direct coupon you can definitely use it on Customer appreciation days.
Happy Saving!

The entertainment book coupon specifies that you can't combine it with Customer appreciation day's discount. My friend tried to use it and a new cashier let her do it once. However, I've tried it once and couldn't use it since it says so on the coupon. As for the other coupon, I didn't ask for it yet so not sure what the fine print says. Thanks for the info on it though.

Hi Sing,
Thanks again! Yes, I used the email direct coupon as well as manufactures coupons as well as the 10% off today. I wonder if the changed the wording on the entertainment book coupon or if its always said that?

As far as I know, the entertainment book has always said that you couldn't combine with the Customer Appreciation day discount. However, at the beginning, some cashiers were not familiar with the coupon and probably let it go. Now, they're more diligent with coupons especially with manufacturer's coupons. They read them with a fine toothed comb. (Hope I'm using the right idiom.)
Sometimes, I feel like I'm holding up the line with my many coupons. Some cashiers examine each and every coupon very carefully. Nonetheless, they accept most coupons esp. the internet printed ones. Therefore, I shouldn't complain. Hope the people behind me in the lineup won't complain either.

I totally understand what you are saying Sing. I am just in the process of writing a blog about my Tuesday shop. I did hold up the line up, but my cashier was FANTASTIC! He didn't get rattled by rain checks, 50% off items, coupons and the email direct! Thanks for your comments!
