Costco Deals

blog 019
Not the greatest picture I know...Anyways, at Costco this week I found Dairy land Classic yogurt 2, 1 Kg(usually yogurt is in a 650 g-750 g size) containers for $4.99! The olives are 6 cans for $4.39. That's .73 a can! Sausages were $2 off a pack. There was mild, honey garlic and hot. My pack was $11.08(smaller is better with this deal)-$2 =$9.08. My package was 1.404 kg, making it $6.47/kg or $2.93/lb. I broke this down until 2 meals.

Healthy Parfaits Using On Sale Ingredients

Fresh berries have been on sale, lately.
As you know when I get the Kellogg's cereals with the free breakfast item I like to order this yogurt. It's a good time to make some yummy parfaits!

Your imagination is the only limit with these tasty treats! I have been collecting these champagne glasses at garage sales this spring. They seem to run about .25 a piece and so every time I see one I get it, as they are so pretty for this kind of thing!
These ones above were strawberries and raspberries.

These ones have some blackberry juice and berries, along with strawberries.

One tub of yogurt made 12 parfaits. Now that I have blueberries I will have to make some of those! What are you putting in yours????

Freezing Yogurt

Several of the recipes I make ask for plain yogurt.Things like buttered chicken needs 1 Tbsp, America's Test Kitchen's yummy banana bread needs 1/4 cup and all of their muffin recipes usually need more than a cup. I don't usually have it sitting around in my fridge so when it goes on sale I buy it and freeze it. Yesterday at 10% off day at Safeway they had plain Activia yogurt in the soon to expire area. It was $1. I had a $1 off coupon...so free!
My ice cube tray holds 2 Tbsp in each cube. Measure out one cube to see if yours are the same. One 650g(not the one shown here) container of yogurt makes 22 cubes full, or 44 Tbsps.

Once it's frozen I pop it out and into freezer bags. It's a good idea to label it frozen plain yogurt and that each cube is 2 Tbsp. I always think I will remember.....I never do! When I need it I just pull out the right number of cubes and put them in a container in the fridge to defrost overnight.
Here's a handy dandy chart for how much to take out.
1/4 cup =4Tbsp
1/2 cup=8Tbsp
3/4 cup=12 Tbsp
1 cup=16 Tbsp
