Veggies and Freezing Peppers

Weekly Specials May 4th - May 9th
This week at Old Town there some good fruit and veggie deals!

Quality Greens Weekly Specials
Quality Greens has the red peppers on for .99/lb. This got me thinking about restocking
my freezer with some tasty peppers!
First I cut them up. I plan to use them in stir fries and quesadillas so I decided to cut them into slices.

Boil some water and blanch them quickly.
Halves 3 minutes
Slices 2 minutes
Diced 1 minute

I put them on a cookie cooling tray to let the excess water drip off.

Pack them into a freezer bag and label.
Enjoy your tasty peppers!

Using Up Freezer Food and Modifying Recipes

This week as I menu planned, I was looking through my freezer and found plums! We have a plum tree in our backyard and this year it produced a bountiful harvest. I cut them in half, took out the seed and froze them in Ziploc of 2 cups. So, I was thinking, what could I make with plums that would be good in lunches and our ski hill suppers. I have this recipe for rhubarb bake, which we love, and I thought why not modify it and use plums instead?

So, I did and the result was wonderful!(I doubled the recipe to make this large cake pan full). In the process I learned that if you want to you can melt the margarine and mix it in, it doesn't seem to make any difference. Also, I didn't have any oranges, no problem.
Maybe other fruits could be used also?

This is an extremely easy, very tasty, recipe.

Organizing Your Freezer

What a way to save money!!! Stop wasting stuff in your freezer! I was menu planning and digging through my freezer this week and thinking I have got to get this organized. I've tried those cute charts, you know where you fill everything in one day while you are feeling in the mood, but you never add or subtract things after that.....So, I did what I always do when I'm looking for a new idea, I googled it! I came across an organizing tip that's sooo exciting. Food fridge magnets! The website said you could just cut out pictures of food you have in your freezer out of flyers then buy sheets of magnets at your craft store. The magnet can be cut to size and the cut out picture taped to it and voila! Your very own food fridge magnet! Want to do this cheaper? Reuse those useless fridge magnets! ( if you are like me, have tons of!!)I used these emotion magnets in the upper right corner. Now the front of your freezer has the pictures of the food inside and the side is where the magnets go when things are taken out! How hard could it be?? You are now saving electricity, as you no longer need to stand there with the freezer door open, wondering what's inside! I am hoping this works!
