Once Again About the Cereal

This week Safeway is having the Kellogg's cereals 3/$12 again. I decided to take some pictures and show some scenarios for saving money on cereal.(Have you guessed yet that I am a very visual person? I love pictures attached so I can SEE, I hope this is helpful to you.) If you can combine this with 10% off day, of course that's best. Also, if you can get the cereal that has the free items....YEAH! This week if you buy 6 cereals you get 100 airmiles. For those of you who saw the flyer you can see on the front they are offering 100 airmiles if you spend $100, so comparatively this is a better deal for your dollar! If you got the recent coupons from Kellogg's here's what I found. The All Bran is $4/box less $1 coupon makes it $3 for the 525g size. Combine that with 10% off day and you get it for $2.60.

The Raisin Bran is $4-$1=$3 or $2.60 for the 675g size.

Vector cereal is not on sale, the 850g size is $9.99-$1=$8.99 or $8.10.

The 850g Mini Wheats are $6.49. The buy one get one free coupon means you 850g X 2 for $6.49-.65=$5.84 for 2 big boxes. These boxes get 100 airmiles when you buy 5.

Sorry about the glare! The Kellogg's Corn flakes are $4 for the 650g size. The coupon is  for  B1 G1 free so this cereal would be $4 for 2 650g boxes less .40 on 10% off day, so $3.60 for 2 boxes.
Here's a picture with less glare showing both the B1G1 and the $1 off coupons for the Corn Flakes. Using the $1 off coupon you'd pay $2.60 for the 650g box.

The Rice Kripisies are $6.49 for the 640g size and this coupon is for B1G1 free, so for  2  boxes of  Rice Krispies you'd pay $6.49 less .65 or $5.84. These are part of the buy 5 get 100 AMs too.

The same box also has a $1 off coupon. Making it $5.49-.65=$4.84 for the 640g.

The Frosted Flakes are $6.49 - $1- .65=$4.84 for the 680g size. Again this is part of the  buy 5 for 100 air miles.

I couldn't find many free breakfast item boxes, but here's one! The Mini Wheats centres are $1 and there is the $1.50 off coupon, making it $2.50-.40=$2.10 for the 510g size.

Here's the Mini Wheats again, but with the $1 off coupon, making it $6.49-$1-.65=$4.84. Again, this is part of the  buy 5 get 100 air miles.

Here's another buy 5 get 100 cereal. The Froot Loops 580g for $6.49-$-.65=$4.84.

Lastly, there is the Frosted Flakes 680g, part of the buy 5. So, for $5.84 you get 680g of cereal.

So, here's a breakdown of all of that
for the Buy 6 get 100 Air miles.
Mini Wheats centers 510g $2.10(plus free breakfast item)
All Bran 525g $2.60
Raisin Bran 675g $2.60
Corn Flakes 650 g $2.60
Corn  Flakes 2 X 650g $3.60
Vector 850g $8.10
So, if you bought everything but the Vector, you would have your 6 items. For $13.50 you would get 3660g of cereal, plus you'd get $3.79 off for your free breakfast item.(this is using the yogurt)so $9.71 for 3660g worth a cereal and a 650g yogurt.
Plus 100 Air Miles!
For the Buy 5 get 100 Air Miles
Froot Loops 580g $4.84
Mini Wheats 850g $4.84
Rice Krispies640g $5.84
Rice Krispies  2 X 640g $5.84
Frosted Flakes 680g $4.84
If you bought everything but the one 640g RK, you'd pay
$20.36 for 3390g of cereal. Plus 100 Air Miles!Obviously, from these calculations the buy 6 is a better deal!
Running from July 3-6 Safeway is having a buy $75 get a $10 savings reward card to be spent July 7-12 WYB$75 worth of groceries. As, we don't yet have the flyer, it's hard to say whether this will be worthwhile or not.
Have a great shop!

A Few Deals

Remember, if you got this coupon from Schneiders, today is the first day to redeem it for your free sausages. It is only good until July 2. I picked this up at Safeway.  It's also available at Walmart and it's in the flyer for $2.97.

Walmart has their pizzas on for $2.47 this week(they usually go down to $3).

The Brisk drinks are still on for $1 this week.

Today only at Safeway these stuffed chicken breasts were on 2/$5(limit 6). That's an ok price however, they do cycle lower at Costco.
But, with an additional 25%(there's still more there if you are going to the Harvey Ave Safeway) off it's screaming! I don't know if you know, but Safeway discounts items and puts the regular price on it so you know what the discount is coming off of. For example, these stuffed chickens breasts are usually $6.99 so normally you'd get 25% off of that. But, if the item is on special it is off of the sale price, so the grand total for my chicken caesars was $2.50x25% or $1.88 each. This makes them $6.62/kg and the lowest I have tracked stuffed chicken breasts is $7.12(and that was screaming!) at Costco.

Safeway's clearance section is super fun, especially if you combine it with coupons. The  yogurts were  each $3.99 with a 50% off coupon, plus I had $1 off coupons for each, plus club card savings! The Asana ended up being .50 and the Yoplait .75!!!

I got 12 chicken breasts, 6 corn, 2 yogurt, and a package of sausage. So, for all of this it was $14.45!!
Hope you can score some deals today!
Don't forget today is the last day of the no tax event at Superstore. In BC that's a savings of 12%!
Also, Superstore is having their gas event this week.

Hawaii Anyone????

Oh.... how we love Hawaii! I sure hope someone out there is planning on going this winter and can take advantage of this deal! I am signed up to receive most travel deals by email. This morning I saw this! Travel Alerts has flights from Vancouver to Honolulu, Dec 6-13 for $159 one way...add in all the taxes and fees and the grand total is $437.91!!!!!!!!!! The best deal I have seen in awhile(when we went 3 years ago we thought we got a screaming deal at $500/person!
I went on both Westjet and Air Canada and was unable to get this deal on either site so I think you have to book through their site(it's with Air Canada). I am sure there are limited seats at this price so if you are going....you probably need to book ASAP...Drop me a line if you get it and I can enjoy your trip vicariously!!!!!

Just after I hit publish on this article I got this email from Alaska airlines! If you were to travel from Bellingham to Maui Dec 5-11 your total would be $356.40!!!! You can travel starting Nov 8th at this price.
My friend Steven, from Grocery Alerts had Facebooked me and asked if I had looked into Bellingham flights. If you live closer to the border it's always a great option to explore. Of course you need to factor in the driving and parking. Wish I lived closer to Vancouver!

Easy Raspberry Scones

I wanted to make some raspberry(with those .98 raspberries!) scones and I knew I had seen a recipe in my Everyday Foods Magazine, but I was unable to find it. When I googled it I found this Martha Stewart recipe. It was easy and tasty!
You need a food processor for this recipe. You start by adding 2 1/2 cups of flour....
 1/4 cup of sugar

 1 Tbsp baking powder

3/4 tsp salt. Pulse these together.

You need 3/4 cups buttermilk, which is 1Tbsp lemon juice added to the milk.
Add the buttermilk to one egg yolk and whisk together.

You need 1/2 cup cold butter. What I do is I cut it up into smaller pieces and throw it in the freezer while I am doing the rest of the recipe.

Add butter and pulse until mixture is pea size.

Slowly add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture and blend until it just comes together.
Flour your surface. Put raspberries on counter(or dough) and knead 3X just to mix berries in. Roll out and cut into pieces.

Sprinkle with 1 Tbsp sugar.

Bake at 400 for 15-18 minutes turning the pan half way through the baking time. My oven was very uncooperative during this bake as it kept shutting down. I used convection, not convection, turning it back on every time it screamed PF1! Believe it or not we made it through....and we may have discovered the oven problem....we'll see!

They are so tasty. Not too sweet, so if you need sweet cover them in some honey!

Europe's Best Vegetables

I was in at Walmart yesterday and noticed their Europe's best frozen vegetables are $2.99. If you have the $2 off coupon. You can get a bag for $.99!

Bolt Bus

My daughter was home this weekend and asked me if I had heard about the Bolt Bus. I hadn't, so she asked if I'd do a little research...and here's what I found.
Bolt Bus leaves from Vancouver at 1150 Station Street and goes to Portland Oregon and Seattle Washington(there are more routes if you are travelling in the USA). They have free Wifi, Extra Leg room, power outlets, and reserved seating. You can travel for as little as $1 one way! What's the catch? Well, I could find the following dates leaving from Vancouver going to Seattle for $1:
June 26 at 730am
July 5 at 730am
July 8 630am
July 22 at 630am(this is $1.20)
July 28 at 630am
July 30 at 130pm or 430pm
July 31 at 130pm
but once I added that we were 2 people travelling the $1 fares were almost non existent. But still, there were plenty of $6 fares. I found I could go June 26-28 for $7! The fares I found were  $1, $6, $8, $10, $15, $20, $22 for one way. Vancouver to Seattle is a 2 hour and 33 minute car ride or a 3 hour and 45 minute Bolt ride.
To Portland they seem to start at $14 and go to $50, however on July 28 at 630am there is a $2 fare! I could book a return fare for $14 on the 30th, making it $16 round trip! To Portland it's a 5 hour and 30 minute car ride normally...It's 7 hours and 15 minutes on the Bolt Bus.
There is a $1 processing fee.
They have a reward system where after you have made 8 trips(one way) you get a free trip(one way), 8 round trips you get 1 round trip free. This is only valid if you log in and book your trip online.
So, it seems if you are travelling and don't want to take your car you could really save some cash if you have a place to stay and are flexible when booking your dates. Most likely there are a very limited number of $1 fares.(When I called them they said there is usually just one per travel time and you had to search to find them as they go quick. ) If you live in Vancouver, Seattle or Portland it is a great way to travel!
Our Korean friend who lived with us last year stayed in inexpensive hostels in Seattle, but she didn't get a deal like this on her bus ride!!! Have you travelled with Bolt? What did you think???
